40 Questions:
SKINCARE
- How many times do you wash your face daily?
On a normal day in the morning after hopping out of the shower and before going to bed (unless I decide to change my makeup or put new make up on then I'll generally throw an extra wash in.
- What skin type do you have? (dry, oily, combo)
My skin is on the dry side (now slightly less so when during the winter months)
- What is your current facial wash?
I'm currently rotating three facial washes in no particular order No7 Beautiful Cleansing Water which is a summer favourite, Soap & Glory Peaches and Clean which I usually use after exercise (which should really be added to the daily face wash tally) and Simple Kind to Skin Cleansing Wipes (do these count?).
- Do you exfoliate?
I usually exfoliate once a week... and my current favourite scrub is Dr Manuka Honey Face Scrub.
- What brand do you use?
- What moisturizer do you use?
I currently use Olay Total Effect 7-in-1 Anti-Aging Moisturiser and Serum Duo. I started using this about four weeks ago and I'm really pleased with the level of moisture it provides - and it still sinks in quickly enough to allow for speedy make-up application.
- Do you have freckles?
Not a single one!
- Do you use eye cream?
Yes, I have a bit of an eye cream habit and have been using eye cream since I was about 19 - I'm kind of obsessed with the religous application of eye cream as I'm a firm believer that prevention is much better than cure. I'm currently rotating Kind to Eyes Soothing Eye Balm (when I'm putting on make up as it is very light, sinks in quickly and doesn't interfere with my under eye light reflecting corrector) and L'Oreal Age Perfect Pro-Calcium Intensive Restoring Cream for Eye and Lip Contours (long name that...which I usually put on before I go to bed, I have been using this cream for about three months after about a decade of Nivea Q15 eye cream and it really seems to do the job).
- Do you or did you have acne prone skin?
Not really, the odd occasional spot in the general chin area but nothing too major (in fact I still sometimes get these...)
- Did you ever have to use Pro-activ?
No, I didn't even know what it was - I had to google it.
- What foundation do you use?
Again, I choose my foundation to suit the occasion, the season and the weather - oh, and my mood. For a light daytime look I actually tend to go for BB creams - my most repurchased one is Maybelline BB Fresh Cream in light. Foundationwise I also like to keep it deewy and I really like Benefit Hello Flawless in Oxygene Wow in Believe in Me.
- -How about concealer?
I don't really use concealer, I find my foundation or BB cream usually provides enough cover to even out my skin tone.
- -Do you know your undertone color?
Yes, a slightly pinkish undertone.
- -What do you think of fake eyelashes?
Nice on other people - but not really my thing.
- -Did you know that you are suppose to change your mascara every 3 months?
Yes, probably one of my favourite make up rules. For this reason I tend to stick to high street brands - usually Maybelline, Rimmel or Bourjois.
- -What brand of mascara do you use?
I currently use Rimmel London Scandaleyes Lycra Flex Mascara which doesn't clump on me and also doesn't cause any issues with my contact lenses which is a must really.
- -Sephora or MAC?
It's got to be MAC purely because there are no Sephoras in England...
- -Do you have a MAC Pro-card?
Nope!
- -What makeup tools do you use in make up application?
Sponges, brushes and sometimes my fingers (usually to apply foundation).
- -Do you use make-up base/primer for the eyes?
I have found that applying whatever make up I'm using to my eyelids is usually sufficient to ensure my eye make up stays put - to be fair I do not normally have issue with make up slipping or noticeably wearing of so I'm quite low maintenance as far as eye primers are concerned.
- -For the face?
Again, I usually just moisturise, let that sink in and then apply my make up or I sometimes mix my make up with my moisturiser it I am after a lighter look with extra moisture - generally, I'm all about moisturising and same as with my eye make up my foundation or BB cream does usually stay put without problems.
- -What is your favorite eyeshadow (color or shade)?
It's got to be a neutral buttermilk or champagne colour - something really light to brighten the eye area and perfect for a "What make up - I look like this normally" look!
- -Do you use pencil or liquid eyeliner?
I'm kind of sitting on the fence on this! My current go-to eyeliner both for the waterline and also above my upper lashes is Rimmel Scandaleyes in Nude as I really like to go for the wide-eyed, awake look.
- -How often do you poke your eyes with an eyeliner pencil?
Actually never - this is because I'm wearing contact lenses and I'm really careful not to get anything into my eyes to avoid irritation - not to mention that it is kind of a pain to clean eyeliner of your contact lenses...
- -What do you think of pigment eyeshadows?
Too messy for me - I prefer either cream eyeshadows or pressed powder eyeshadows to avoid the getting stuff everywhere issue!
- -Do you use mineral makeup?
No, because my general rule is that if I wear make up then I'm not really that minimal and I also slightly favour cream products.
- -What is your favorite lipstick?
My favourite lipstick right now is (and I'm slightly cheating here) Rimmel Apocalypse in Luna - I mean how fantastic are these? Plus I was forever trying to find a nude coloured lipstick/lip product which didn't make me look ill or washed out and this is IT!
- -How about lipgloss?
Stila all the way - my current favourite is Grapefruit (I just love how well these last).
- -What is your favorite blush to use?
I'm currently totally into a Bourjois Little Round Pot cream blush in Nude Velvet - it goes on really nicely and gives a subtle wash of colour. I'll defenitely get more of those!
- -Do you buy your makeup on ebay?
Generally no because I like to swatch products so I'm really more about the high street and department store shopping experience.
- -Do you like drugstore makeup?
Yes, I think that there are a lot of products which are good quality and which offer fun colours available in my local Boots and Superdrug - though I do like a browse in Debenhams' or House of Fraser's make up department as well - that has a tendency thought to end up a bit more painful for the state of my bank balance.
- -Do you go to CCO's? (cosmetic company outlets)
No, not really.
- -Did you ever consider taking make-up classes?
I actually have taken the odd class at my local beauty shop at home and have also had lessons at the Benefit make up counter.
- -Are you clumsy in putting on makeup?
I tend to favour a neutral look so there is a certain amount of leeway and I do have my standard routine down to be pretty streamlined and it's relatively idiot proof.
- -Name a makeup crime that you hate?
Dark lipliner with pale lipstick!
- -Do you like colorful shades of makeup (lipstick, eyeshadow) or neutral ones?
I generally go for neutral shades - cream, beiges, brown, taupe shades and corally shades for lip gloss and lipstick. Having said that I do have lime green and yellow eyeshadow which I picked up as a joke in Claire's accessories and it suits me in a strange way and it's a massive colour pop.
- -Which celebrity always has great make up?
Nina Dobrev
- -If you could leave the house using just ONE make up item, what would you use?
My Benefit foundation - perfected skin makes everything else look good by default!
- -Could you ever leave the house without any makeup on?
Yeah, no problem - like for instance I never wear any to the gym and I take exercise classes about five times a week.
- -Do you think you look good even without any makeup on?
My lashes and eyebrows are quite dark naturally so I have some default definition to my face going on and my skin is quite good courtesy of my moisturiser obsession, so yeah I do look ok.
- -In your opinion, what is the BEST makeup line?
High end I'm a sucker for Benefit Makeup and high street/drugstore it's a toss up between Maybelline and Bourjois.
- -What do you think of Makeup?
I think makeup is a great way to experiment with colours and looks and to complement your features. It's a fun little extra that can make you feel confident and polished and you can be who you want to be. It's easy to change your type or your look with a few little tweaks!
Wooo! I can't believe I have finished this! 40 questions is a hell of a lot of questions but I kind of enjoyed and it make me realise that even though I think my makeup and skin care routine is quite streamlined if I just list my favourites it already adds up to more products than I realised!
What I did today:
I had my monthly facial with a back massage at Beauty in the Attic in Prudhoe.
I picked up a Rimmel Primer and another Apocalypse lipcolour in Boots.
Somehow a pair of very black opaque tights snuck into my all white boil wash and I have now white t-shirts and shirts with an attractive grey tint - NOT. Epic fail!
Me and my fiance had our dinner as a picnic on a picnic rug outside our house overlooking the village green leading down to the river Tyne.
